Firefighting is a very important job. I’ve experienced it firsthand, as firefighters recently saved my home from a fire.

The photo shows how seriously firefighters take their work.

Recently, there was a huge forest fire in Portugal. Around 1,150 firefighters worked non-stop to stop the fire from spreading.

Sadly, about 25 firefighters were injured. Two deadly fires in Portugal the previous year killed 114 people.

But this photo isn’t about fallen firefighters. It shows firefighters taking a short break to rest after working in dangerous conditions.

Pedro said: “After working all day and night, we took a 15-minute break by the river. The air was thick with smoke.”

The firefighters rested for about 25 minutes after working for 24 hours to control the fire. The photo clearly shows the smoky environment they were working in.

On August 5th, temperatures reached 46°C. Thirteen planes dropped water on the fire, and 160 soldiers helped with evacuations. The photo went viral, receiving 9,000 reactions, 1,300 comments, and over 6,000 shares. Many people thanked the firefighters for their hard work.

Prime Minister Antonio Costa praised the firefighters, saying they did everything they could. Sadly, some firefighters died while working.

The police hope such a tragedy will not happen again this year.
