Hygiene is key! You need to wash your feet everyday, whether it be in the bath or shower, and make sure to dry them particularly in between each toe thoroughly after. This is important to stop fungus and issues like athletes’ foot.
Smelly Feet
This is actually a sign that your footwear or socks are preventing a free flow of air around your feet, and so the sweat is not evaporating. Therefore leaving you with sweating/smelly feet.
-Wash your feet several times a day if they are prone to getting sweaty. This will prevent odour, especially in the warmer months.
-Dry them well.
-Dust your feet with foot powder or talc powder before putting on socks or shoes.
-Wear fresh socks each day. Any socks or tights should be made of natural fibres. Avoid synthetic linings.
-Allow shoes to air thoroughly after wearing. Try not to wear the same pair 2 days running to just sufficient time for them to air.
-Go barefoot wherever possible, especially in summer.
-Open shoes are good for ventilation
-Buy deodorising inner soles
-Use an antiperspirant spray on your feet.
Foot exercises
-Sit on a chair, stretch legs out and move your feet up & down at the ankles. Repeat 10 times.
-Roll your feet back and forward over a bottle or tin. This is good for tired feet.
-Stand barefoot with your feet together. Rise onto the balls of your feet then slowly back down. Repeat 10 times.
-Improve foot flexibility by practising using your toes to pick up a pen/pencil from the floor and hold it for 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times with each foot.
Well fitting shoes
Most foot problems are caused by ill-fitting shoes so it is important you take your time when buying new shoes. It’s important to know your true size.
-Try on both shoes. Many people have 1 foot larger than the other. So it’s important that both feel comfortable and one side is equally comfortable.
-Try on shoes at the end of the day when your feet will be at their biggest.Your feet will swell over the day so shoes you buy or try in the morning might be uncomfortable later on in the day.
-If they are not comfortable in the shop – don’t buy them! Shoes don’t have to be ‘broken in’ this is a myth. The right fitting shoes should feel comfortable from the start. You’ll only end up with blisters and sore feet if you try.

Massage the ball of the foot with both hands using firm circular motions then move to the instep, and finally to the heel. Finish by pinching in between your big toe and second toe with your thumb and finger. Then continue the pinching motion all the way down your whole foot then back up again. Repeat this starting in between each of the other toes.
