How to Spot a Narcissist: Eyebrows May Be a Clue
Recognizing a narcissist can be tricky because they often seem charming and well-liked. However, the sooner you can spot one, the better it will be for your peace of mind. Surprisingly, recent research suggests you might be able to identify a narcissist by looking at their eyebrows.
Eyebrows as Signs of Narcissism
It may sound strange, but studies show that eyebrows can indicate narcissistic traits. A study from the University of Toronto found that people with “distinctive eyebrows” were more likely to show narcissistic behavior. The researchers took photos of students with neutral expressions, then assessed their narcissism using a personality test. When other students viewed the photos, they were able to guess who had narcissistic traits based on eyebrow appearance.
The results showed that thicker, denser eyebrows were strong indicators of narcissism. Interestingly, when researchers swapped the eyebrows of narcissistic individuals with those of non-narcissists, people misidentified the non-narcissists as narcissists.
Why Eyebrows Might Be a Clue
The link between eyebrows and narcissism isn’t fully understood. One theory is that narcissists, who care deeply about their appearance, might pay extra attention to grooming their eyebrows. Since eyebrows play a big role in facial attractiveness, narcissists may focus on them to enhance their appeal.
Other Facial Signs of Narcissism
Other studies suggest that narcissists show certain facial reactions when faced with failure or criticism. For example, they might have subtle muscle twitches in their eyes or forehead. These small movements can be signs of discomfort or defensiveness when they’re criticized. You’ll need to pay close attention to spot these reactions.
What Is a Narcissist?
A narcissist is someone who is overly focused on their own needs and wants, often ignoring others. They tend to be manipulative, deceitful, and take advantage of people. Narcissists are usually selfish, lack empathy, and use others to get what they want. While they can be charming and charismatic, they are typically self-absorbed and don’t care much about the feelings of others.
