The Elephants Always Line Up To Hug This Woman …The Reason Why Left Me Speechless
It’s sadly all to common that thousands of elephants are killed every year for their ivory. Despite only needing their tusks, poachers hunt them down and kill them so their beautiful tusks can be cut off and sold on the black market. By doing this many baby elephants are left without parents, especially mothers, who the babies rely on for care. Frustratingly these poachers are rarely caught as they operate at night and are extremely difficult to track down.
So one incredible woman who was heartbroken by what was being done to these incredible creatures, decided to take matters into her own hands.
Meet Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick who has been raising elephant orphans since 1977. She established the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in her husband’s honor after years of wildlife conservation together.
Selflessly she has dedicated her life to saving the elephants.
The elephant rehabilitation centre is set up for orphaned baby elephants that have been found with the goal to help them recover and grow so that they can return to the wild and repopulate the wild herds that have diminished due to poachers.
The video below made in 2009 by 60 Minutes shows a segment on this truly remarkable women. Watch in awe as Daphne interacts with her beloved elephants.
