Man Paragliding Over the Great Pyramid of Giza Captures Rare Aerial Footage Of What’s Written On Top
What’s carved into the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza? While climbing the pyramids is now strictly forbidden, one adventurous soul got closer than most ever will.
Yanis Terzis, a 35-year-old Brazilian, took to the skies to get up close and personal with the pyramid’s summit using his paramotor. He attached a GoPro Hero 10 to his helmet to film the experience.
To clarify, Terzis wasn’t breaking any laws—he had secured permission to fly over the ancient structures. His goal was to capture “some of the most amazing footage from a different angle over the pyramids and temples.”
For his flight over the Great Pyramid of Giza, Terzis decided to take a bit of a risk and get as close to the ground as possible. A thrill-seeker at heart, this has earned him millions of views on YouTube. On this occasion, he flew so close that he could have touched the pyramid’s tip with his feet. It was a memory he will surely treasure forever, as very few people ever have the chance to see these monuments from such an intimate vantage point.
In his video, he highlighted what appeared to be words carved into the white stone and talked about “scriptures.” Some viewers even wondered if they were looking at thousands of years of names or perhaps even hieroglyphics.
He also explained that the “incredible 4k view offers a new perspective,” revealing all the intricate details of the monuments. His footage shows him gliding barely above the pyramids’ flat tops, which, contrary to their pointed appearance from the ground, are actually quite level.
As one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Giza Pyramids, and particularly the Great Pyramid, continue to awe visitors. Built around 2560 BCE, it originally stood at 482 feet tall, but over time, erosion and the removal of some stones have reduced its height to approximately 449 feet.
