How To Use A Washing Machine …I’ve Been Doing It All Wrong This Whole Time

Today I just learned that the detergent compartment on the washing machine is meant to be used like this; no wonder the clothes weren’t getting clean enough!

The proper way to do laundry.

Start by focusing on cleaning the detergent compartment, a crucial part of your washing machine. The detergent compartment holds detergent and helps mix it with the clothes during the washing cycle. Over time, dirt and residue can build up, leading to unpleasant odors on your clothes after washing. Regular cleaning of the compartment is essential to avoid this.

Cleaning the detergent compartment is a simple task. First, locate the button in the middle of the detergent drawer and press it gently to remove the drawer. Once removed, carefully wipe down every corner to ensure no dirt is left behind. If it hasn’t been cleaned in a while, you can use a damp cloth or a shoe brush for a more thorough scrub. Otherwise, lingering odors on your clothes will become more noticeable. After cleaning, securely reinstall the detergent drawer in its correct position.

Many people prefer pouring detergent or laundry powder directly into the washing drum, but this isn’t the best practice. Instead, it’s better to place the detergent or powder into the main washing compartment.

Additionally, you can use the pre-wash compartment and the fabric softener compartment when necessary. The pre-wash compartment is ideal for treating heavily soiled clothes, and you can extend the washing cycle using the pre-set function for better cleaning results.

The fabric softener compartment is meant for adding softeners or color fixatives before the rinsing cycle. When using these compartments, ensure that the detergent is placed in the correct order and position so that it fully soaks and cleans the clothes.

Lastly, a small but important reminder: avoid opening the washing machine door during the washing process. When loading clothes, be careful not to accidentally place valuable items like mobile phones or electronics in the machine. If this does happen, don’t worry. Most washing machines have a small emergency button at the bottom, which can be pressed with a coin. Once pressed, you can easily pull a cord to unlock the door and retrieve your items, preventing any loss.
