If You’ve Noticed A Blue Line Painted On The Street …Here’s What It Means
The importance of road markings is well understood by drivers, as ignoring them can be incredibly dangerous, even fatal.
In the coming weeks, residents in certain parts of the United States may notice a new road marking: a thin blue line placed in the middle of the two yellow center lines.
This new marking is a tribute to the brave police officers who serve their communities. In Maryland, the blue line is being painted on roads as a way to honor law enforcement personnel.
In addition to being a symbol of respect, the blue line also serves a safety purpose, as it directs drivers toward the police station.
Mayor Rick Sheehan of Ocean City, Maryland, is proud that his community has adopted this gesture. He recognizes the vital role police officers play in maintaining balance between the energetic teens who flock to the area for parties and the older retirees who call the city home.
The blue line, which runs directly to the Ocean City Police Department headquarters, has been installed between the yellow center lines of 65th Street.
It is our hope that other communities across the country will follow suit and consider adding blue lines to honor their own local law enforcement officers.
