A 1889 Magazine Asked Women Why They Are Single …The Replies Are Seriously Badass
Women of this generation are lucky to be born in an era where being single is generally acceptable and considered normal no matter what the age. Sadly, women in Victorian society were considered to have just one main duty in life, which was to marry and serve their husband. But as this old article shows, not all of the women wanted such a life and were breaking the norms!
While studying an 1889 edition of Tit-Bits Magazine, historian Dr. Bob Nicholson, who runs a blog called The Digital Victorianist, came across an interesting article. A Victorian magazine asked its female readers the reason why they preferred to be single and the savage responses are hilarious.
Thankfully Nicholson shared his findings with twitter for all to see, and the response was brilliant. He included the original article with all the responses included. We have shared a few of the most savage replies.
