The World’s Most Amazing Trees
The world if full of weird and wonderful sights, here we have complied a few of natures most breathtaking trees. Despite looking so bizarre they are actually all real and you can learn all about them below.
1.The baobab is also known as the “upside down tree” and can be found growing in low-lying areas in Africa and Australia. The trunks become so fat partly because they can HOLD WATER. Studies of these trees using carbon dating suggests that they may live to be 3,000 years old.
2. These are Dragon Blood Trees which are native to a remote island 200 miles off the coast of Yemen. The tree gets its name ‘dragon blood’ for unique red sap that bleeds from the bark when it is cut. Not only does the tree bleed like a human, but the shape makes it look like a huge umbrella.
3. The Angel Oak is a live oak tree located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island. The tree is named after it’s original owners of the land, Justis and Martha Waight Tucker Angel. The tree is estimated to be 400-500 years old. It stands 66.5 ft tall, measures 28 ft in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet
4. The knotted branches of a ‘Spider’s Web’ tree (or a strangler fig) are amptly named because they look like a web with the intertwinning branches. This famous tree can be seen in a park in Nanning, Guangxi, China
5.The Circus Trees were originally grown and created by Axel Erlandson. He was a swedish american farmer who shaped trees as a hobby employing the process of inosculation, which is when one tree bonds to another. Axel opened the “Tree Circus” in 1947 so locals and tourists could experience the wonder of the “World’s Strangest Trees.”
6.The chapel oak is an oak tree located in France. In the 1600’s the tree was struck by lightning which caused it to burn right through the centre and created a hollowed out trunk. A shrine to the Virgin Mary was built in the hollow of the tree.
7. This is a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree, and no id has not been painted. The colours are a result of sections of bark shedding at different times during the year. The exposed inner bark changes through different colours, including blue, green and even orange.
